Happy New Year and Happy Anniversary!!
altText
A very Happy New year to everyone! Welcome to 2012 which will mark the 20th anniversary of 98/9 The Rock!! I know I say this all the time, but thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting the station for the past two decades. It has been one hell of a ride that has been 100% made possible by you...without you, none of us would be here and we can't thank you enough!! It's going to be a great year so fasten your seat belts and hang on tight!! I don't buy in to the whole "world is going to end this year" mumbo-jumbo....but it doesn't mean we can't do a little damage along the way!

Cheers!

You can register for the ride online, day of or there will be more chances to pre-register in the next couple of weeks. Check right here at 989therock.com for all the details and thank you for all of your support of the March of Dimes!!!!

I'm Baaaaaaack!!!!!

After a couple of weeks hiatus, I am back and on the air! What a vacation it was! Had a great time traveling with the crew of "Into the Drink" as they filmed an episode of the tv show to showcase Greece and many of the sites it has to offer. In fact, they got enough material that they're probably going to make 2 episodes out of it. I posted a travel blog while I was gone that you can access at my fan page on Facebook. If you haven't seen it already, it's really easy to use. Just click on "Travel Map" underneath the profile pic to get to it. Once there, just click on any of the destination points for blogs and pics from that day's activites.

Had an awesome time but it's good to be back and get back on the air!!

Hello all!!

I just wanted to thank everyone for coming out to Harley Giveaway Party last night!! What a great time indeed! Nigel Dupree Band put on a great set, the atmosphere that all of you set was amazing....and of course, a HUGE congratulations to Dominick Millay-Metz who took home the whole thing!! He chose the Fatboy (good choice...I probably would have done the same) AND he is a registered Rockaholic so he the badass Camaro as well!! Here's just a few pics from the night:

[gallery orderby="title"]

It was a quick one this time around...Dominick was the 7th key up so it just goes to show that it could absolutely go to anyone!! Thanks to Worth Harley-Davidson, Van Chevrolet and Harrah's. I'd be willing to bet we've got more bikes and more cars coming up!

Rockfest FAQ
altText
4 days away baby!! The biggest, most bad-ass one day music festival in the country is practiaclly right on top of us. I thought I'd help you out a little and repost the FAQ section of kcrockfest.com so you know what you can/can't bring etc. For full details visit that website and we'll see you all at Rockfest!!!!

What should I bring to Rockfest?
■One sealed bottle of water, 24 ounce maximum. Free refills will be available through out the show.
■Blankets
■Binoculars
■Small digital cameras. Nothing with a removable lens
■Cell phones
■Sunscreen in plastic container
■Plastic Bags – The kind you’d get at the grocery store
■Draw String Book Bags – No pockets. No zippers.

What should I leave at home?
■Umbrellas
■Glass containers
■Weapons of any sort, including pocket knives
■Wallet chains
■Recording devices
■Food
■Coolers
■Chairs
■No pets except service animals
■Camelbacks
■Backpacks – not even as purses.

What if I need to bring in medical supplies? If you have a medical condition that requires you to bring medical supplies, explain what you have at the main entrance. You will be directed to the medical trailer next to the main entrance where your supplies can be kept or administered.

Is Rockfest an all-ages show? Yes, Rockfest is an all ages show. In no way is Rockfest child friendly and we encourage you to leave the kids at home. Should you decide to bring a child, the child will need a ticket.

Can you leave the show then come back later?Only with a new ticket. No re-entry.

Warning: Every year hundreds of people come to Rockfest with fake VIP passes or fake Backstage passes. Most are purchased on-line. There are NO VIP passes. There are NO backstage passes. They do not exist in any form, so if you buy one, it’s guaranteed the pass is fake. What happens when people show up with a fake pass? Security tells them your pass is fake, you were ripped off, and the show is sold-out so you can’t come in. How much would that suck? Don’t let it happen to you. The only entry into Rockfest is a Ticketmaster ticket. Anything else is just a scam.

Zakk Wylde To Play National Anthem
Posted 05 May 2011 in Bob's Blog
We are very pleased to announce that the one and only Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society will perform his guitar version of the National Anthem to open the Monster Energy Main Stage at Rockfest 2011! Zakk will be accompanied by a Marine Corps Honor Guard presenting our Nation’s colors. Considering Rockfest takes place at The Liberty Memorial, the only WWI Memorial in the United States, nothing could be more fitting.

We’ve all known Zakk to be very generous and patriotic performer. He’s always given his time to support our troops, spend quality time with his fans, and participate in many charity events. Black Label Society is headlining the Jose Cuervo Second Stage with a set beginning at 9pm. The night before Rockfest, the band is playing in Denver. When we asked Zakk to perform the Star Spangled Banner, he did not hesitate to say they would leave Denver early, make sure to arrive in Kansas City on time, and that he was honored to pay tribute to our great country opening Rockfest.

Make sure you’re in front of the Monster Energy Main Stage just before 1:30 p.m. for this special performance. Thank you Zakk for always being an amazing performer and one hell of a good guy!

The clock is ticking and it'll be here before you know it! Rockfest 2011 is only this far away:

Tickets are still available, going fast and you DO NOT wnat to miss this show. Seriously....Disturbed, Stone Sour, Papa Roach, Alter Bridge, Sevendust, Hinder and Halestorm on the main stage! You'd probably have to pay at least $35 just to see any of those bands on their own, you get them ALL for $35 at Rockfest! OH YEAH and there's another stage too!! Black Label Society, All That Remains, 10 Years, Red Line Chemistry, Hail the Villain, Art of Dying, New Medicine and Evalyn Awake will all be tearin' it up on that stage. I've said it before and I'll say it again...this is going to be EPIC!!!!!

IT'S MADNESS BABY!!!!
altText
Holy crap it is on! March Madness is in full swing and if you don't think emotions can go from wicked highs to crushing lows in a matter of seconds, you need look no further than the Pitt/Butler game from this past weekend. Pitt, the number 1 seed in that region, went from losing the game, to winning the game, to ultimately losing the game in just the final 2.2 seconds. It was an unbelievable finish....that's what March Madness is all about! If you didn't see it, here's the clip of the final seconds...trust me, take a few minutes to watch it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLggqgdnKoM

Same thing with the Texas/Arizona game. Texas had it all but locked up with less than 15 seconds to go and a couple costly mistakes gave Arizona the win. There were some incredible games in the second round and hopefully your bracket kept up (hopefully you picked VCU to get to the Sweet Sixteen....if so, you should get the pool just based on that pick alone!)

Now, I'm sure you probably know that I'm a big KU fan but I'll absolutely tip my hat to K-State who had a great run in the tournament and almost survived to play another game. Jacob Pullen had a tremendous game matching his career high of 38 AND setting the school record for all-time scoring.....I give him a standing ovation because that kid can play! That said, I now believe that Frank Martin (Head Coach) is a complete douche-nozzle. During the postgame, a reporter asked Pullen to sum up his emotions having set the school record but not able to get the win. Pullen broke down with emotion and Frank berated the reporter asking "Is this what you wanted? To make him cry in front of all these people? Good question." As a matter of fact it was a good question and instead of going after the reporter Frank should have praised and commended his star player for having that kind of passion. Pullen left it all on the floor, there is no doubt about that and my hat is off to him. I have more respect for that kid now than I did before to see him come off of the floor so physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted from putting it all on the line that he couldn't hold back his emotion after the game. I respect Frank and how he has turned that program around but I think he handled the situation very badly......and I'm still giving a standing ovation to Jacob Pullen.

So now it's on to the Sweet Sixteen and the intensity is only going to grow! I look forward to this weekend of more incredible games and more games that come completely down to the wire.....I LOVE March!!

oh yeah....and Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!!
