Nivens Log, Vol. XVIII

David Letterman said "Goodbye" to the world last night! 33 years, over 6000 episodes. He was truly a titan of his business. Anytime you can leave your flagship station (NBC) and go elsewhere (CBS) and succeed means you're doing something right! And Dave did it right. In a previous blog I posted up Eddie Vedder's performance, I now give unto thee last night's final musical act; Foo Fighters with "Everlong". Letterman's favorite track by the them! It's complete with a career montage that's one of the most impressive ever seen.

Today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy was brought to you by Mr. Jim Norton discussing having a girlfriend!

Nivens Log, Vol. XVII

#AsHeardOnAir

EDDIE VEDDER was one of DAVID LETTERMAN's final musical guests, this week. He does a stirring rendition of his PEARL JAM classic "Better Man" and gets a standing ovation from the audience.

Speaking of Letterman, it was announced today that the FOO FIGHTERS will be his final musical act tonight. I personally thought TOM WAITS should have been the final act, but I wouldn't kick the Foo outta bed!

For today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy, sponsored by 816 Vapor, was the legendary RICHARD PRYOR talking about his time in the jungles of Africa.

Here's what happens when a autobot calls into the studio. It's the little things, people!

HOLY RAINING NEW JAMS BATMAN!!

On Friday (the 15th) METALLICA front man JAMES HETFIELD teamed up with SAMMY HAGAR, CHAD SMITH (RHCP drummer), guitar legend JOE SATRIANI & ALICE IN CHAINS' JERRY CANTRELL for the Acoustic for a Cure show benefiting the Pediatric Cancer program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Here's Hetfield teaming up with his daughter for a cover of ADELE's "Crazy".

Nivens Log, Vol. XV

Back from the weekend & damn we did a lot!
A house party and friend's band, The MGD's (check 'em out), at the Riot Room Friday night.
Burlesque and a monsoon Saturday!
And then we Dressed to the 9's for the Royals game on Sunday where they worked over the Yankees 6 to Nada! Somehow we were "Reported" for our vocabulary... which is baffling since we had the little one with us, though she does speak like a sailor!
I digress....

Today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy was Mr. Louis CK. Peep the clip below & know it's #NSFW!

Over the weekend at, Rock on the Range, Saint Asonia made their debut! Some are calling it a super group as there's Adam Gontier on vocals, formerly of 3 Days Grace, Mike Mushok of Staind, Corey Lowrey formerly of Eye Empire & Dark New Day and former Finger Eleven drummer Rich Beddoe.

Loudwire just posted up a Top 10 video of child prodigies shredding away and homeboy Aidan Fisher, who's gonna open up the Monster Energy Stage at this year's Rockfest, is listed among the performers. See ya soon!

Bullet For My Valentine will drop a new album in August with "Venom". Here's the first sound in "No Way Out". Thoughts?

Nivens Log, Vol. XIV

It was only a matter of time, given his health has been in decline for quite a bit, so it is with a heavy heart I state, "Rest in Peace BB King"!

An incredible power, an incredible musician, a discoverer of talent far & wide, he was a one of a kind!
This video, with U, captures the essence of how big BB was!

Another track has surface front he forthcoming album from Breaking Benjamin, "Dark Before Dawn", titled "Defeated".

Tom Waits played a new jam last night on The Late Show with David Letterman. As everyone knows, Dave's about to retire!

And for your enjoyment, here's Tom's interview with Letterman!

Will ya look at that? Today's Weekly Rock Wind Up!! Tons of great news & info in here!

Chevy Metal shows up at a county fair in Cali!!
And if you don't know, Chevy Metal is the cover band to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and when they showed up at the fair they brought along Dave & Chris & Rami!!

(Set list: Queen "Under Pressure," Van Halen "Panama," Bryan Adams "Summer of '69" and The Knack "My Sharona.")

Mr. Lewis Black was today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy!
If language is an issue at your work then it's NSFW!

Had an interesting conversation today on Facebook over this article here -----> HI!!! in regards to Punk Bands and where they get their band tee shirts from! The author makes a rather convincing argument about having them made in good ole U.S.A.!

Nivens Log, Vol. XII

(Editor's note: Because technology sucks ass from time to time, sometimes we find ourselves writing out the exact goddamn thing we just wrote out because a particular blog locks up, and forces you to start all over. Yaaaaay)

Since I don't wanna repeat that mumbo jumbo let's just get right into the Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam singing the 7th Inning Stretch tune, "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". Side note; this is probably one of if not the most popular song to come out of the Tin Pan Alley era from back in the day!

Well wishes out to Sully Erna of Godsmack, here's the message about last night's show straight from the band themselves: At the conclusion of Tuesday nights performance by Godsmack in Montclair NJ, just prior to the encore, Sully came off stage experiencing a shortness of breath and dizziness. Out of an abundance of caution it was decided to have him be further evaluated by medical personnel off site and end the performance prior to the completion of the encore. Godsmack regrets having to end their performance prior to the 3 song encore, and hope that everyone will understand the reasoning for doing so given the situation. Sully had recently been battling a virus that likely contributed to the situation. Fortunately, he was evaluated and cleared to perform and is able to continue with the tour including the show tonight in Rochester NY. Thank you so much to those who reached out in concern and understanding!

New video from Coal Chamber for "I. O. U. Nothing"

This thing looks fucking crazy!! Marky Ramone, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein with Frank Vincent and Brea Grant in Killogy!!

Gigidy, gigidy, Gi-Gid-F*ckin-Dy!!
On Tuesday, of next week, Faith No More will drop their first album since 1997's "Album of the Year" titled "Sol Invictus" and thanks to NPR it's streaming below!!

Speaking of new stuff, Duff McKagan is putting out a new book today "How to be a Man".

Amy Schumer was today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy!! Here's her bit, "Porn Endings".
This is incredibly NSFW!

I'm not entirely sure what to think about Avenged Sevenfold mashed up with Katy Perry....
Sure it's catchy and poppy but...

Nivens Log, Vol X

What a wild weekend!! Spent Mother's Day with my biological mother and mom!
Watched my gal absolutely kill it in her burlesque dancing debut, Saturday night, and oh yeah...
This happened! Props to David Berry of Smoking Monkey Pictures for capturing this!

Chris Rock was today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy and given what happened over the weekend this bit seemed very appropriate! Ha!

Nivens Log, Vol. IX

Slash whipped the web into a frenzy this week by saying, "Never say never" about a possible original Guns-n-Roses reunion!
Peep the video below...

This cover version popped up today from Laura Jane Grace, Joan Jett & Miley Cyrus. There's much back story to all of this one should uncover to understand how poetic their rentition is.

Seeing as it's Friday, here's today's Weekly Rock Wind Up! News about Scott Weilaind, Ivan Moody, BB King, Sepultura, Teenage Time Killers, Duff McKagen and much, much more!

Voting ends in one week and one day to decide which 5 regional bands will play Rockfest on the Jagermeister Stage! I've really enjoyed going through all the videos and am about 2/3rds the way thru! Good luck to all of you who're entered.
Follow this link here for all the videos & to vote!!

Another track dropped today from new massive-ridiculous-super group- Teenage Time Killers, "Barrio". It features Matt Skiba, lead singer, of Alkaline Trio. Has a very old school punk sound/vibe to it. I'm a fan!!

After a little good natured ball busting towards my piano teacher/all around amazing musician Tyson Leslie I was listening to his SoundCloud page and found this gem of a cover. Along the lines of Richard Cheese, or as he states The Mavericks, "S.O.S" by Motley Crue

Sepultura fans will wanna peep this video below of the band in Russia! It's a live, 18 minute, documentary for their 30th Anniversary Tour!

I have every intention of at some point seeing BABYMETAL in action!
This looks like it's a blast!

It's a wet and wild Wednesday!
Some call it Humpday, today I lived that! (Nooner aka Quickie)

#AsHeardOnAir
Quiet Riot's documentary will be out on DVD the 19th of this Month, "Well Now You're Here, There's No Way Back"

Thanks to my friend, Bustamante, I found out that Faith No More will be streaming their Detroit show on Friday, May 8th! Starting at 8:15 AM our time! Click this Link here for the details!

Today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy was Mr. TJ Miller talking about a horrible flying experience.

Happy 100th Birthday to Orson Welles! A powerful force in the world, with an incredible mind & voice, who's career started on the radio!

As you know Halestorm will be at Rockfest! Here's the latest video from them for "Amen"!

Nivens Log, Vol. VI

Cinco de Mayo!!
Just another reason to drink, get smashed and blame it on Mexico's Independence (even though that's actually in September)

Starting today's blog off with your 4:20 Smoke Break from Dave Chappelle. Naturally, with Dave, it's NSFW!

My god I miss Rage Against the Machine!
You would think NOW, with all that's going on in the world, they'd resurface and melt our faces off with some new jams.
Sadly, I don't think that'll be the case!
Here's a video to one of my favorite jams by them!

At roughly the 6:40 mark Scott Weiland (once the front man for Stone Temple Pilots) makes his case for what happened last week with his botched abortion performance of "Vaseline". Naturally the interviewer asks about a possible STP reunion. He's basically lobbing softballs towards Scott. Not exactly in depth reporting, more like buttering up. None-the-less, thoughts?

YES!! New video from Agnostic Front, "Never Walk Alone"! Think we can talk Fritz into spinning in The Pit?

Back in the saddle on a Monday afternoon after spending the weekend in Atlanta!!
Big week ahead of us here as we're closing in on Rockfest!! Less than four weeks out.
Crazy to think that twas on this day, three years ago, the world truly lost an amazing soul in Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys!
Here's a docu about them boys, Beastieography!!

On top of We Are Harlot I'm super jacked to catch Motionless in White at Rockfest! They certainly look like they'll be able to carry the torch of hard rock laid down by the likes of Manson, Korn, Zombie, etc. The following video is the title track to their latest disc, "Reincarnate".

GREAT bit for today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy by Dov Davidoff about "Love"

Undoubtedly you've heard about the Five Finger Melt Down over the weekend in Memphis. Supposedly it was a "technical error" that drove all the band mates to walk off the stage and nothing to do with Ivan ripping Jeremy's new book. The band also kicked out a sampler of a new track.

Nivens Log, Vol. IV

Hello Friday!!!

Just plugged the new Breaking Benjamin jam, "Failure". New disc, "Dark Before Dawn", drops in June.

Speaking of new jams, I'm super excited for new Faith No More!! They've already played a couple of new tracks live and put one out, "Mother F*cker", as a Record Store Day Black Friday exclusive. Be on the lookout May 19th.

Today's 4:20 Smoke Break was Chris D'Elia. Here's his entire performance that today's bit about "Drunk Girls" came from!

Weekly Rock Wind Up is ready to roll! News stories about Stone Temple Pilots, former STP front man Scott Weiland (sounds horrible), GWAR, Alice in Chains, Lemmy & much - much more!

What I was just talking about on air, "Dear Rockfest Gods! Please let Tech N9ne play the Public Enemy part with Antrax in four weeks!"
