Seems to be the case and it may end up being called Giraffe Tongue. In an interview with Noisecreep guitarist Brent Hinds of Mastodon stated he has teamed up with The Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman, former The Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen and ex-Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery. He also confirmed they "tried to get together and do an album, but there's been no time". As to why he chose the name Giraffe Tongue, Hinds replied "because they look sick."
In a recent interview Iron Maiden front-man Bruce Dickinson was quoted as saying, "I got into trouble for saying that we're better than Metallica⦠and, it's true! They might be bigger than us and they might sell more tickets than us and they might get more gold-plated middle-class bourgeoisie turning up to their shows but they're not Maiden."
A lot of metal news for ya punters out there coming out just today alone.
*Slipknot will be the focus of a photo exhibit in London next month, July 12th to the 24th, at the Strand Gallery at 32 John Adam Street. If you happen to be there on Saturday July 16th be sure to sit in and hear from Mr. Harries who will be sharing stories behind the images he shot.
*While Metallica is ranked number 1 according to Kerrang! magazine's readers poll of the most influential band over the last 3o years it was another metal icon, Iron Maiden, that scored number 1 in Sweden Rock Magazine's reader's poll for greatest album of the past decade with "A Matter of Life and Death".
*Slayer frontman Tom Araya to receive the keys to the city of Viña del Mar, Chile, his hometown. This will be the first time Araya has received anything this grand from his hometown and although he's only visited a couple of times and remembers very little of his childhood there before immigrating to the U.S. he plans to take a little extra time to get to know the people living in Viña del Mar and to celebrate his 50th birthday with the people in attendance at the show on Friday, June 3rd. This will be Slayer's first time ever playing Viña del Mar.

The band is already planning a new album sometime in the Spring/Summer entitled "Kairos" - which is a Greek word signifying a time in between, a moment of undetermined period of time in which something special happens - and in a recent interview with Blabbermouth.net Sepultura and main songwriter Andreas Kisser had this to say about a possible reunion with Max and his conversation with him:
"â it was a really nice, cool conversation, talking about nothing but family stuff; nothing about business at all. It would be stupid for us to, after [almost] 20 years [apart], expect for a phone call of two minutes to [lead] to a big reunion. [laughs] It's kind of naive, you know â it's kind of stupid."
Q: Is it safe to say that if you guys could rebuild your relationship and have a real friendship with one another again, you would be open to maybe doing a SEPULTURA reunion with Max, but unless that happens, you are not interested?
Andreas: "No, I don't [necessarily] connect our friendship with doing a reunion. But, of course, after getting to know each other again and talking about projects, we could even do different stuff â [work together again and] not call ourselves SEPULTURA. I mean, create some different project or whatever; it doesn't necessarily have to lead to a reunion. It [would be] just a relationship [like the one] that I have with [any of] my friends â that's all."

Anthrax's Scott Ian was in Hawaii when the earthquake/tsunami struck Japan and it's effects were felt all the way on the islands. Here's his take on it from his blog;
"My wife Pearl and I just got back from Hawaii. We went on a 'babymoon.' Basically, our last trip just the two of us for a long time. It was a great vacation, super relaxing, doing nothing but hanging on the beach, and oh yeah, there was a tsunami. It sounds a lot worse than it was.
"If you've seen the footage from Japan you've seen what a big tsunami is capable of.
"We were at dinner with friends when one of them got a text saying there was a tsunami warning because of the earthquake in Japan. This was at 10 p.m. By the time we left dinner at 11:30 p.m., traffic was insane with people trying to get out of Waikiki and it suddenly hit home that this could be serious. We hadn't seen the Japanese footage at this point, so at least we didn't have that to scare the shit out of us. Our friends offered for us to follow them to a house inland, but we decided to head back to our hotel on the North Shore, an hour drive from where we were. The tsunami was not expected until 3 a.m. so I figured we'd make it. The only issue was if they closed the road to our hotel that runs along the ocean for 10 miles or so we'd be fucked. We gambled. Turns out our hotel (Turtle Bay Resort) is a safety zone for the North Shore so we were heading to the right place.
"We made it back around 12:30 a.m. and turned on the TV and saw the devastation in Japan. Unbelievable. These images are still burned into my brain and my thoughts are with you my friends.
"After seeing this, we did start to worry. Would it really be safe here? Are we high enough up (fourth floor), etc. etc. I called the desk half a dozen times asking these questions and telling them I had a pregnant wife with me and they reassured me each time that we'd be OK. Hey, I'm a kid from New York City and I just saw Japan get demolished like Godzilla came through. What do I know about tsunamis?
"The TV news was tracking it as it made its way past the Midway Islands and the reports were varying from a four-foot wave to a 12-foot wave. We just kept watching the ocean from our room â we had a great view. At around 2 a.m. the hotel security announced over the PA that we had to leave our rooms and close our balcony doors and shutters and move into the hallway. We decided to stay in our room. If something was coming, I wanted to see it. The hallway was packed with people from the lower floors. People had moved chairs and pillows with them to sleep on. Pearl and I watched and waited. At 3:15 a.m. reports came in that Kauai got hit and that the wave was only three feet but that it could get bigger. We had about 10 minutes until it hit. At this point I was really questioning whether we should've just gotten in the car and drove up the hill. Then we watched the ocean completely suck out dry about 500 feet out. It was nuts, dry as a bone, all the reef exposed. The water was just gone. We stood on the balcony waiting to see a huge wave ripping towards the shore line and then there it was, tiny little waves, one on top of another, moving really fast but small came pouring back into the empty space. Once it seemed like it had peaked the reports came in that the first wave was three feet and that the next wave could be 12 feet. OK, I was starting to see a pattern here. I guess they have to scare the shit out of you in case it is bad so you take it seriously. Meanwhile at this point we're on the balcony shooting video of the ocean sucking out again and the small waves ripping back in.
"That's what happened over and over again for the next two hours and at 5:45 a.m. we finally went to bed even though they were still saying 'the big one' could come. Bottom line, I am really happy it didn't.
"Woke up the next day and found out there was some damage on the big island and some damage to boats in some of the harbors but all in all a non-event, especially when compared to Japan. If it was a wave like that, I'd be typing this from my mattress 20 miles out at sea somewhere."
Released a digital-download only, today, of his latest E.P. "Imperfect Remixes". Below is a video for "Goodbye-Gate 21" off the 4 tracks available for download on itunes. And, yes, that is Tom Morello on guitar.
Tweeting recently, "Just watched tracks being laid down by Zakk Wylde of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY for my upcoming record 'Seeking Major Tom'." He added, "Zakk is one of the great guitarists who played with Ozzy Osbourne. A master playing a cover of 'Iron Man'. He's fantastic! I'm energized."
Rumor has it Shitner'sShatner's album will have 20 tracks on it and should be available, for target practice, later this year.
Or allow them to be exposed to the biggest Berserker of them all; Mr. Zakk Wylde. On May 10th his book, "Bringing Metal To The Children", will be released. Inside, Wylde invites all onto the tour bus for tales of glory, debauchery, and general mayhem. It will also feature a roadmap for success in the music business, tour planning and exclusive tips for the aspiring "metal musician," as well as the best methods for surviving a mosh pit and plans for how to set up a shooting range on the tour bus.
Seems Dave Mustaine, front dude for Megadeth and pioneer/godfather of all things Thrash, tweeted this week that, "We're going to have some Big shows coming up."
As many of you know Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax and Metallica played earlier this year in Sofia, Bulgaria. Their DVD from said show "The Big Four: Live From Sofia, Bulgaria" debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Top Music Videos sales chart and was number one in Canada, the U.K. and Austria as well as entering number four in Germany.
Does this mean an official confirmation of The Big Four in the States and U.K.?

Well sort of!
Cory Taylor of Slipknot/Stone Sour has put together a fun little twist on the holidays!
Here is the back story from Cory himself.
"I wrote this song in my kitchen one winter, listening to people bitch about the holidays," Taylor explained. "Personally, I love the holidays, but they seem to bring on severe stress in most people. So, I wrote this in honor of crotchety, drunken bastards who donât know the difference between a yuletide and a toolshed. Plus, I think it's funny."
How can you argue with that!
Merry Christmas!
MOOSE
This is a really sad story out of Leeds, England. Andrew Crawford was beaten last Thursday (the 25th). He sustained serious head injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he died.
The attack followed an incident at the O2 Academy where two men set his friend's hair on fire, reports BBC News.
METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett accidentally knocked a little girl off stage after kicking a large beachball at her during the band's November 11 concert in Sydney, Australia. The incident happened while the band was performing the song "Seek And Destroy".
METALLICA has issued the following statement regarding the incident: "In the whacky world of rock'n'roll, sometimes stuff happens which looks even weirder than it really is! And with context being vital in these situations, we just wanted to address something which happened on the tour the other night regarding a large beachball, a band member's foot and a little girl.
"Some of you will have seen on YouTube (or read in some reports) that Kirk knocked a small child offstage by kicking a beachball at her. That little lady is the daughter of the stage manager and dressing coordinator, who are fortunate to travel as a family on this tour. She was thoroughly enjoying watching the beachballs drop from the rafters, Kirk was thoroughly enjoying kicking the beachballs off the stage and back into the crowd as has been done every night on the tour, and neither of them saw the other. The poor wee one happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She wasn't hurt. She didn't go 'flying several feet into the audience.' And Kirk and she remain good buddies.
Long-running Venice Beach, California thrash/punk band SUICIDAL TENDENCIES has issued the following statement:
"Sunday night SUICIDAL TENDENCIES played New York City to 2000 old- and new-school Cycos! It's always great to hit the East Coast and catch up with a lot of our friends, bands and family. Unfortunately, the New York City show will be the last show of this tour. Sadly, one of the band members had a parent pass away suddenly and needed to fly home to be with his family in this difficult time and handle all the funeral arrangements, etc. With heavy hearts, the band decided it would be best to postpone the remaining SUICIDAL TENDENCIES shows and make them up sometime next year. We appreciate your understanding, your thoughts and your prayers. Please give us a few days and we will try and let those who already have tickets how how to get refunds, etc. Again, we are so sorry to have to postpone these shows, but hope that everyone will be able to understand, and we'll do our best to make the dates up."
The postponed dates are:
Nov. 17 - Metro - Chicago, IL
Nov. 18 - Cabooze - Minneapolis, MN
Nov. 20 - Summit- Denver, CO
Nov. 21 - Sunshine Theatre - Albuquerque, NM

During last month's Dimebash in LA, honoring the late-great Dimebag of Pantera/Damageplan, Rita Haney Dime's long time girlfriend had said she'd hoped Dimebash would help publicly bury the hatchet with former Pantera frontmanPhil Anselmo. Sadly, she states, Phil's pneumonia prohibited that. Below is the video with her thoughts on it.
