After a couple of weeks hiatus, I am back and on the air! What a vacation it was! Had a great time traveling with the crew of "Into the Drink" as they filmed an episode of the tv show to showcase Greece and many of the sites it has to offer. In fact, they got enough material that they're probably going to make 2 episodes out of it. I posted a travel blog while I was gone that you can access at my fan page on Facebook. If you haven't seen it already, it's really easy to use. Just click on "Travel Map" underneath the profile pic to get to it. Once there, just click on any of the destination points for blogs and pics from that day's activites.
Had an awesome time but it's good to be back and get back on the air!!
I just wanted to thank everyone for coming out to Harley Giveaway Party last night!! What a great time indeed! Nigel Dupree Band put on a great set, the atmosphere that all of you set was amazing....and of course, a HUGE congratulations to Dominick Millay-Metz who took home the whole thing!! He chose the Fatboy (good choice...I probably would have done the same) AND he is a registered Rockaholic so he the badass Camaro as well!! Here's just a few pics from the night:
It was a quick one this time around...Dominick was the 7th key up so it just goes to show that it could absolutely go to anyone!! Thanks to Worth Harley-Davidson, Van Chevrolet and Harrah's. I'd be willing to bet we've got more bikes and more cars coming up!
4 days away baby!! The biggest, most bad-ass one day music festival in the country is practiaclly right on top of us. I thought I'd help you out a little and repost the FAQ section of kcrockfest.com so you know what you can/can't bring etc. For full details visit that website and we'll see you all at Rockfest!!!!
What should I bring to Rockfest?
■One sealed bottle of water, 24 ounce maximum. Free refills will be available through out the show.
■Small digital cameras. Nothing with a removable lens
■Sunscreen in plastic container
■Plastic Bags – The kind you’d get at the grocery store
■Draw String Book Bags – No pockets. No zippers.
What should I leave at home?
■Weapons of any sort, including pocket knives
■No pets except service animals
■Backpacks – not even as purses.
What if I need to bring in medical supplies? If you have a medical condition that requires you to bring medical supplies, explain what you have at the main entrance. You will be directed to the medical trailer next to the main entrance where your supplies can be kept or administered.
Is Rockfest an all-ages show? Yes, Rockfest is an all ages show. In no way is Rockfest child friendly and we encourage you to leave the kids at home. Should you decide to bring a child, the child will need a ticket.
Can you leave the show then come back later?Only with a new ticket. No re-entry.
Warning: Every year hundreds of people come to Rockfest with fake VIP passes or fake Backstage passes. Most are purchased on-line. There are NO VIP passes. There are NO backstage passes. They do not exist in any form, so if you buy one, it’s guaranteed the pass is fake. What happens when people show up with a fake pass? Security tells them your pass is fake, you were ripped off, and the show is sold-out so you can’t come in. How much would that suck? Don’t let it happen to you. The only entry into Rockfest is a Ticketmaster ticket. Anything else is just a scam.
Bob posted this on his blog at kcrockfest.com and I thought I would repost it here to help get the word out. This is going to be awesome!!!
Zakk Wylde To Play National Anthem
Posted 05 May 2011 in Bob's Blog
We are very pleased to announce that the one and only Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society will perform his guitar version of the National Anthem to open the Monster Energy Main Stage at Rockfest 2011! Zakk will be accompanied by a Marine Corps Honor Guard presenting our Nation’s colors. Considering Rockfest takes place at The Liberty Memorial, the only WWI Memorial in the United States, nothing could be more fitting.
We’ve all known Zakk to be very generous and patriotic performer. He’s always given his time to support our troops, spend quality time with his fans, and participate in many charity events. Black Label Society is headlining the Jose Cuervo Second Stage with a set beginning at 9pm. The night before Rockfest, the band is playing in Denver. When we asked Zakk to perform the Star Spangled Banner, he did not hesitate to say they would leave Denver early, make sure to arrive in Kansas City on time, and that he was honored to pay tribute to our great country opening Rockfest.
Make sure you’re in front of the Monster Energy Main Stage just before 1:30 p.m. for this special performance. Thank you Zakk for always being an amazing performer and one hell of a good guy!
The clock is ticking and it'll be here before you know it! Rockfest 2011 is only this far away:
Tickets are still available, going fast and you DO NOT wnat to miss this show. Seriously....Disturbed, Stone Sour, Papa Roach, Alter Bridge, Sevendust, Hinder and Halestorm on the main stage! You'd probably have to pay at least $35 just to see any of those bands on their own, you get them ALL for $35 at Rockfest! OH YEAH and there's another stage too!! Black Label Society, All That Remains, 10 Years, Red Line Chemistry, Hail the Villain, Art of Dying, New Medicine and Evalyn Awake will all be tearin' it up on that stage. I've said it before and I'll say it again...this is going to be EPIC!!!!!
Holy crap it is on! March Madness is in full swing and if you don't think emotions can go from wicked highs to crushing lows in a matter of seconds, you need look no further than the Pitt/Butler game from this past weekend. Pitt, the number 1 seed in that region, went from losing the game, to winning the game, to ultimately losing the game in just the final 2.2 seconds. It was an unbelievable finish....that's what March Madness is all about! If you didn't see it, here's the clip of the final seconds...trust me, take a few minutes to watch it.
Same thing with the Texas/Arizona game. Texas had it all but locked up with less than 15 seconds to go and a couple costly mistakes gave Arizona the win. There were some incredible games in the second round and hopefully your bracket kept up (hopefully you picked VCU to get to the Sweet Sixteen....if so, you should get the pool just based on that pick alone!)
Now, I'm sure you probably know that I'm a big KU fan but I'll absolutely tip my hat to K-State who had a great run in the tournament and almost survived to play another game. Jacob Pullen had a tremendous game matching his career high of 38 AND setting the school record for all-time scoring.....I give him a standing ovation because that kid can play! That said, I now believe that Frank Martin (Head Coach) is a complete douche-nozzle. During the postgame, a reporter asked Pullen to sum up his emotions having set the school record but not able to get the win. Pullen broke down with emotion and Frank berated the reporter asking "Is this what you wanted? To make him cry in front of all these people? Good question." As a matter of fact it was a good question and instead of going after the reporter Frank should have praised and commended his star player for having that kind of passion. Pullen left it all on the floor, there is no doubt about that and my hat is off to him. I have more respect for that kid now than I did before to see him come off of the floor so physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted from putting it all on the line that he couldn't hold back his emotion after the game. I respect Frank and how he has turned that program around but I think he handled the situation very badly......and I'm still giving a standing ovation to Jacob Pullen.
So now it's on to the Sweet Sixteen and the intensity is only going to grow! I look forward to this weekend of more incredible games and more games that come completely down to the wire.....I LOVE March!!
ROCKFEST 2011 IS OOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!! This is going to be off the charts! Rockfest 2011 is May 14th at Liberty Memorial......right where Aggie Stackhouse DIDN'T want it to be. Sorry Aggie, you lose....fail. Check it out, 15 band on 2 stages: Disturbed, Stone Sour, Papa Roach, Alter Bridge, Sevendust, Hinder and Halestorm on the main stage. Then we've got Black Label Society, All That Remains, 10 Years, Red Line Chemistry, Hail The Villain, Art Of Dying, New Medicine and Evalyn Awake all on the second stage. Concessions are $5 or less included the Miller Lite and the party is going to be off the hook! You and 55,000 of your closest friends! Rockaholic pre-sale tickets are on sale right now until midnight Friday for $25....think about that....15 bands at the biggest 1 day music festival in the country for $25....you can't beat that.
Ever been burned by the autocorrect on your phone and end up saying something that you had no intention of saying? Rest easy that you are NOT alone! Check out damnyouautocorrect.com. A friend of mine sent me the link and literally had tears in my eyesfrom laughing so hard!! It's my new "Texts From Last Night"
In case there was any doubt that Power & Light is the douche capital of Kansas City, this should pretty much seal the deal.....
One of the cast members of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” will headline this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival at the Kansas City Power & Light District.
Paul DelVecchio, also known as “Pauly” on the mega-popular reality show, or DJ Pauly D to his music fans, will appear at the March 17 “Shamrocks & Shenanigans” St. Patrick’s Day Festival in the KC Live block of the downtown entertainment district. Paulie, 30, is a fan favorite on MTV’s highest-rated show because of his ”impeccable grooming and memorable catchphrases,” but his “talent” isn’t limited to the TV screen.DJ Paulie D, who has been performing in the music business since age 18, was nominated in 2010 for America’s Best DJ.
I was talking to a friend of mine who had the best quote ever...she said, "Holy crap, you take an arial photo of that gathering and its going to look like powered cheese on an In-A-Tub taco!!"
Great news for KC was just announced the other day. The revitalisation of our fair city continues and it looks like two more major attractions are going to begin construction soon! I'm an avid scuba diver and like the water/aquatic life so I'm pretty excited about not one but TWO large aquariums being built here in KC! Here's the announcement that showed up the other day...
What a catch!
Crown Center on Wednesday announced a $15 million aquarium that will open in spring 2012. Sea Life Kansas City at Crown Center will occupy the entire 45,000-square-foot first floor and about half of the second floor of Halls department store. Halls will shift some departments to other spaces in Crown Center.
The aquarium will include more than 30 displays — from shrimp and starfish to seahorses, sharks and rays — along with a huge tropical ocean tank with a walk-through underwater tunnel. A regional element will take visitors on a two-to-three-hour journey from “the fresh waters of the Missouri River, into the mighty Mississippi River, then out into the warm blue coral-strewn waters of the Caribbean Sea, ending in the deep, dark abyss of the Atlantic Ocean.”
While construction is expected to begin in May, the final design, including the total number of gallons of water, has not yet been completed. Admission prices also were not disclosed.
Bill Lucas, president of Crown Center Redevelopment Corp., a subsidiary of Hallmark Cards, said the Sea Life aquarium will complement the family-oriented attractions at Crown Center and add to its regional draw along with the nearby attractions of Union Station and the National World War I Museum.
“This is one of the most exciting announcements in our history,” Lucas said.
Merlin Entertainments Group, based in the United Kingdom, will develop the aquarium. The company, a major player in the family entertainment business, has developed nine other attractions in the U.S., including the Legoland California theme park and water park.
It also has Sea Life aquariums in Carlsbad, Calif., and Phoenix. An aquarium at the Mall of America in Minneapolis is being re-branded as a Sea Life and will reopen in a few weeks, and a Sea Life and Legoland Discovery Center will open in the Dallas-Fort Worth area this spring.
Merlin and Crown Center Redevelopment will share the construction costs and will not seek tax incentives. The aquarium will have about 50 employees during peak summer and holiday seasons.
“Kansas City is a great regional destination and we know Crown Center is a place that’s always going to be here, in 20 years, 30 years, and it won’t become glitzy,” said Steve Shears, site search and acquisitions director for Merlin.
In recent years, developers have pitched Union Station, the riverfront and a location near the Sprint Center as sites for a major aquarium attraction downtown. Now it appears the area could soon have not one but two aquariums opening at about the same time.
Across the state line in northeast Johnson County, an aquarium is being planned as a major attraction of the proposed Mission Gateway office and retail project in Mission.
Cameron Group, a Syracuse, N.Y., developer of Mission Gateway, is proceeding with plans for a much larger saltwater aquarium — 2.5 million gallons and around 90,000 square feet. A single 2-million-gallon tank is planned to take up the first floor of the proposed three-story freestanding building. The Mission attraction will be operated by U.S. Aquarium Team of Dallas.
Erik Pedersen, U.S. Aquarium’s chief executive officer, said his attraction might appeal to a wider age group and be more “museum quality” than the Crown Center aquarium. It is projected to cost $35 million to $40 million. Construction could start by this summer with an opening planned for spring or summer 2012. Cameron won state authorization for $63.2 million in STAR bond financing for the Mission Gateway.
Shears, of Merlin Entertainments, said he looked at several area sites before selecting Crown Center. He said the development, which includes the headquarters of Hallmark Cards Inc., had the infrastructure in place with two major hotels, retail, restaurants and other attractions like Kaleidoscope, the Coterie Theatre and the American Heartland Theatre.
“A major investment like this, central location, no incentives, what’s not to like?” said Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser.
As for Halls, the men’s department will relocate to space on the third level of the Crown Center Shops. The Hallmark Cards product department within Halls will be consolidated into the Hallmark store on the second level of the shops, while the home decor and kitchenware departments will be relocated on Halls’ second floor.
The department store’s third level will remain unchanged.
Crown Center Shops tenants were pleased by the news.
“It’s very exciting to have that kind of investment … what a boon for Kansas City,” said Mary Merola, co-owner and a founder of Function Junction, a housewares store near Halls in Crown Center. “This is already a thriving area, but it will give us another boost.”
I'm glad to see more and more development happen around the city. I've lived here my entire life and I've seen things come a LONG way in the last several years. I look forward to more!
I'll admit it, I am fully addicted to that damn game and probably need an intervention at some point. That said, this right here can easy go in the "Why the hell didn't I think of that?" file....
Sorry I've been a little slow getting this post up but I wanted to share a few pictures from the Ozzy/Slash show at the Sprint Center
Overall it was great show! Slash tore it up with Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge once again handling the vocals and Ozzy sounded really good. I'll be honest, the last couple of times I've seen Ozzy it seemed like he was struggling a little bit but he came out strong this time around and sounded good. We also got to see his new guitar player, Gus G, for the first time....and I think probably the last time. I think Gus is probably one and done. Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely no doubt that the guy can play, no arugument there, and I hear that he's huge in Europe (then again, so is David Hasslehoff) I just didn't really sense that much chemistry with this line up. The best thing Ozzy can do at this point is to bring Zakk back into the fold because that is where the chemistry is. Will those two re-unite in the near future? I'm not sure but its happened before....remember Joe Holmes?? Yeah, me either.....
A little while back, you may remember me posting a link to a video of a friend of mine getting mugged underwater by a manta while he was filming for a tv show. In case you missed it, here it is again...
The show is called "Into the Drink". If you haven't seen it yet, you should definitely check it out!! If you're like me at all and like to travel then this show will not only bring the some amazing locations right to your tv but it will also give you some great ideas on where to go to see the world and other cultures....and where to find a cold drink while you're there! From their website: Into the Drink is a travel show like no other, taking viewers beyond the tourist map, and into the unknown. It's an intoxicating celebration of exotic destinations near and far, featuring electric diving, eclectic nightlife, vibrant spirits and colorful people. Each journey Into The Drink introduces viewers to local breweries and distilleries, and dives into regions around the world shared by some of the most mystifying creatures in the ocean. From the sights, the sounds and even the smells from the sometimes unique local spirits to the poshest vineyards; from the tide's ebb to the wrecks, whales and adrenaline-pumping marine life in the middle of the deep blue sea.
If you like travel and adventure and are even remotely interested in scuba diving, then be sure to check your local listings and catch it. You can also see previews and clips on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/IntoTheDrinkTV
These guys look like they have a blast out there while seeing some amazing locations around the globe and I'm going to have the opportunity to see it for myself and travel with them later this summer! I'm definitely looking forward to it and I can assure you there will be plenty of updates and photos either here or on Facebook or both!!

That said, the holidays are officially over and its time to get back to reality for all of us. For us, its time to start thinking about this year's batch of events, concerts and promotions that we'll be bringing to you throughout the year!! We'll have more Harleys and cars to giveaway, more Low Dough Shows that we'll be bringing you throughout the year and of course....Rockfest!! All of us here at the studio truly appreciate your loyalty and support all these years. You allow us to exist and do what we do and we cannot thank you enough. 2011 is going to Rock! (cheesy pun I know) Here's to another great year and the best listeners on the face of the planet!
Ok, I'll be perfectly honest...I'm a little miff'd that I didn't think of this first but points to this guy for syncing his Christmas light up to Slayer "Raining Blood"!! This should definitely leave a few emotional scars on the neighbor kids during the holidays....
Ok, so maybe its not a nationally recognized holiday or event, BUT IT SHOULD BE!!! Thanks to Manfred Uhl and Frogman Scuba for taking one of our Rock banners with a group of students down to Beaver Lake and spreading the word!! They attached the banner to a double decker boat that had been sunk and is now a dive spot down at the lake...check out the pics:
Fee free to take The Rock wherever you go and send us us the pics!!! I can be like our version of The Roaming Gnome! (who happens to be in a few of these shots by the way)
.......nobody from American I-Dull is ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER allowed to release a cover song as a single. Its bad enough that you actually gained "fame" (yes I put that in quotes) in a karaoke contest, now you want to make it even worse by releasing covers?? That really grinds my gears. Look at people like Brent Smith from Shinedown...whether you like the band or not (personally I do), there is NO denying that he got to where he is purely on blood, sweat and tears. He clawed his way up to get what he wanted and you can hear it in his voice...you can hear it in his lyrics and the stories he tells with his songs. I'd much rather listen to that than someone who won a joke of a contest singing someone else's song only to record an album and try to build a career with songs....writtten by someone else. Way to earn it jackholes.
Which leads me back to my original point....NOBODY WHO EVER APPEARED IN AMERICAN I-DULL SHOULD EVER BE ALLOWED TO RELEASE A COVER SONG!!!! Leave the releasing of ANYTHING to the legitimate ARTISTS.
.....we now return you to regularly scheduled programming already in progress......
Please, please, please, please, please take care of these labor disputes as soon as possible to avoid cancelling any games of the 2011 season. Recently I read that the NFL is willing to give refunds to any games cancelled and while that's a great public relations move, it doesn't give me much faith that things are going to be resolved. Let's not forget about the baseball stike during the '94-'95 season. MLB lost a lot of fans over that dispute and those fans never came back...myself included. I love the game of baseball but have no respect for a league full of lazy, increasingly over-weight, steroid using whiners who don't think they make enough money to hit a ball with a stick. That said, I fully understand that players in the NFL have a good argument to make sure their futures are covered seeing that, basically, every single snap has the potential to be their last, however fans would still be very upset if any of the season was called off due to negotiations. My understanding is that a lockout will take place if an agreement isn't reached by March 4th, so again I ask.....PLEASE get the negotiations done before the deadline so we can go to the stadiums and enjoy, what I believe, actually IS America's pastime.
And no I'm not not about how many days remaining before Thanksgiving (although its only two days away also). No, I'm talking about how may days are left to win yourself a Harley key!!! I'm sure you know the package but I'm going to repeat it anyway.....a brand-spanking new 2011 Harley Davidson Fat Boy Low. This really is a beautiful bike! Once the winner turns their key to win said bike (Dec. 8th at Harrah's VooDoo Lounge by the way) two important questions will be asked. 1) Are you a registered Rockaholic? Assuming the answer is yes, then 2) Would you like to take home the brand new Dodge Challenger or the brand new Dodge Ram 4x4? I'm sure you already know that you can check out pictures of all three rides right here on 989therock.com.
That said, it bears repeating.....ONLY 2 DAYS LEFT TO WIN YOURSELF A KEY!!!! Not only will you have chances to call in on air and win them but in the next couple of days we will be broadcasting at the very places we got these rides and giving you more chances to win. Today (Tuesday) from 12p-2p we will be out at New Century Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Paola where the Challenger and the Ram were birthed. Tomorrow we will be out at Worth Harley Davidson North where that bike was forged from 11a-1p. Come out to both and increase your chances of winning a key!!!
Ok, so the title makes it sound a little more dramatic and evil than it really is but Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett kicked a giant beach ball right into a kid's face while playing Seek and Destroy (no pun intended). You can see the kid towards the bottom of the screen a little to the right of the center wearing bright yellow pants. Obviously it wasn't intentional and the ball was bigger than the kid so I doubt Kirk even saw the poor little bugger, but in his defense the security guy totally tee'd it up for him.....
You gotta admit though, it was a pretty good kick....nice follow through
I've seen a lot of Facebook posts with people ripping the Chiefs after the game in Denver yesterday. I really can't agree with most of them. The season so far, I think, has exceeded expectations and there's still half the season to play. Keep in mind too it's a very, very young team. What is it, like two-thirds of the team are rookies or only in their second year? I think they're doing pretty good for such a young team and at some point a game like the one in Denver was bound to happen. The thing to watch now is how do they react to it? Are they going to be down in the dumps about it and just give up at this point or are they going to put that game behind them, regroup and put things back together this Sunday? I believe it'll be the latter. This team has made HUGE improvements as the season has gone on and keep in mind, even after the losses to Oakland and Denver, the Chiefs are still tied for number one in the AFC West and I don't think anyone thought that would be the case at the beginning of the season. Bottom line is, one game doesn't define a season and the season so far has been beyond what I would have expected going into it. Plus, don't forget that Denver embarassed the Chiefs a couple of years ago in Denver and then the Chiefs did the same to them at Arrowhead in their next meeting. Denver rolls into Kansas City in three weeks and I think the Chiefs are going to be ready for them. So don't be down on the Chiefs. There's still a lot of season to play and these young players are still learning quite a bit as the season rolls on.
New show I've been checking out, not sure if you've seen it yet. It runs on E! on Sundays and follows the lives and wives of Perry Farrell, Duff Mckagan, Steve Stevens and Billy Duffy (girlfriend of Billy not wife). So far I have to say this....Etty Farrell, you could very well be the Yoko-Ono of Jane's Addiction. You're not a singer. I don't know what it is with people going out and singing, what basically amounts to karaoke, and somehow thinking they're legitimate (P.S. Death to American Idol) but going on stage at Lallapalooza and singing Blondie's "Call Me" doesn't equal you being an artist....leave the singing to your husband and for the love of pete PLEASE don't try to release an album!!
........What do you mean she'll probably never read this??
Honestly, I'd get overly involved in The Sopranos and after that series finale I kind of glad I didn't....but I've really gotten into this new HBO series called Boardwalk Empire. If you haven't watched it yet, do! It is fantastic. Steve Buscemi plays the lead and really brings it to life...it doesn't hurt to have Martin Scorsese involved either!! Again, having not watched The Sopranos I may not be the best judge, but I've heard reviews saying that Boardwalk Empire is actually better. Given that its on the "premium" HBO channels they can get away with a lot more and I kind of like that they're making and airing their own series'. Its still in the first season so its not too late to get on board (no pun intended) but I think you'll like it if you're not already following it!
Just a quick reminder to everyone to get out and vote for the congressional midterms tomorrow! I'm not going to tell you who to vote for or what to believe/which way to lean...that is entirely up to you but as citizens of this country I think we're all obligated to vote for our elected officials and make our voices heard! Remember, the goverment works for US! If you like who's in office and like the direction we're going then vote to keep them in...if you don't then vote them out, its as simple as that but it is up to all of us to shape this country so get out and vote!! Don't forget, if you don't vote you can't bitch
Sorry its been a while since I've posted....been a BUSY summer!!
Hope everyone had a good Labor Weekend! Mine took me to Beaver Lake near Eureka Springs, Arkansas. If you're looking for a weekend to relax but still have plenty to do, I highly recommend it! I did a lot of scuba diving with my friends at Frogman Scuba Center from here in KC (if you want to certify, that's the place...ask for Manfred and tell him I sent you). Of course, Turpentine Creek is near by...that's the animal sanctuary Johnny is always talking about. Eureka Springs is just a great town to drive through and check out as well. LOTS of scenic windy roads to ride your bike on (saw lots of them this weekend) and good places to eat too. We went to Gaskins Steakhouse which is this authentic log cabin built in 1860 that was turned into a steakhouse...very cool. Not a very big place being an old cabin but it was very relaxed and the food was great! Plenty to do to fill up a weekend if you're looking for a getaway.
Hope you had a great weekend as well! I'm well rested and ready to rip back into it, so I'll see you on the air tonight!!
Ok, maybe not Ferris but how about Rockfest?!?! We are asking for your help and support to keep Rockfest at Liberty Memorial. I'm sure you've heard all the "controversy" about the grass from Rockfest '10, well here's your chance to speak out and be heard! The Parks Department is asking for public input before they vote on letting us bring Rockfest back to the Memorial (where, quite frankly, it bleongs in my opinion!!). Tomorrow (July 8th) from 5:30p-7p they will be holding a town hall meeting in the World War I Museum at the base of Liberty Memorial. Please show your support by attending this meeting (and afterwards check out the museum itself if you haven't already...it is bad ass!!!!)
If you can't make the meeting for whatever reason, the Parks Department will accept your comments thru e-mail which you can link to right here on the 98/9 The Rock website.
Remember, this is not a "protest" style town hall or anything. In fact, I believe the Parks Department really does want to work with us in keeping a Kansas City tradition going but they're looking to see what public opinion is. So, be respectful but make your voice heard!! It only takes a couple of minutes to save a tradition!!!
First of all, thank you so much to everyone who came out to Rockfest this year even though the weather didn't quite want to cooperate (although I think you actually enjoyed that more!!!) A HUGE thanks as always to the folks at Liberty Memorial for opening their grounds and allowing us to have the show there. If you have never been to the museum at the base of the memorial, make it a point to go check it out...it is spectacular!!!
I'm sure you've heard the flack that Park and Recreation Commissioner Aggie Stackhaus has said about the conditions of the grounds following the event but, as promised, here is the statement released by Mayor Funkhouser:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 18, 2010
Statement from Mayor Funkhouser: Rockfest Should Rock On
Parks are for people, and on a rainy Saturday, Penn Valley Park was used by 55,000 Kansas City area residents and out-of-town visitors.
I think we should celebrate that kind of success, not condemn it. Keeping people out of our parks makes no sense to me.
My office has received a substantial number of calls and emails regarding Parks and Recreation Commissioner Aggie Stackhaus’ comments about last weekend’s Rockfest event. Most of the residents who have contacted us are disappointed in Commissioner Stackhaus’ comments about the participant’s manners, and her statement that the event should not return to Penn Valley Park.
Rockfest is a Kansas City spring institution. Like The Brookside Art Fair and the Zona Rosa Easter Parade, it is something that a significant segment of our residents look forward to every year. Community events give us a sense of place. They give us a reason to call Kansas City home.
I fully support Rockfest as one of those events. I support the young men and women who see Rockfest as an anchor for their community. Kansas City needs more fun and entertaining events.
Crowded parks, mixed with an all-day rain, are bound to cause serious landscaping issues no matter what the event. Those issues went even further due to the exuberance of the crowd. But outside of having some fun in the mud, the crowd is reported to have been very peaceful.
The bottom line is that grass will grow again. But residents driven away by overzealous comments may not return.
It is my understanding that AEG-Live has the responsibility to fix the issues caused last weekend, and that they already are moving in that direction and plan to have new seed or sod down soon. I will make sure that the city holds them to that commitment.
I, for one, hope that Rockfest continues to grace the Liberty Memorial and Penn Valley Park for years to come. And to show my support, I have joined the Facebook Petition to Keep Rockfest at Liberty Memorial.
I tell you, this is a beautiful combination for the Harley/car giveaway! I know, I know, I always say its a beautiful combination...but it always is!! Now, here's a quick tip to help you try to win yourself a key (well, a couple tips, actually). First, there is more than one way to win a key...being number 9 on-air is obviously one way, but you can also sign up when we are out and about around town with both rides. Not only do you get to see them both up close and in person, but your odds are pretty good when you drop your name in the box that we have with us.
Tip number two is specifically for the on-air key. As you know, you listen for the cue to call and caller #9 picks up the key. You can text the word "key" to 34426 to an idea of when we are going to give the keys away BUT, keep in mind these are an approximate time. A lot of times people will call in right at that specific time and get mad when we're not giving away the key right then and there. You still have to listen for the actual sounder that tells you when yto call. Odds are, if your phone is ringing through before we play that sounder, you're too early and you probably won't win the key. So, pay close attention for that sounder to fire and then get on that phone and win yourself a key!!! We're still pretty early in the key giveaway process so there will be PLENTY of chances to pick one up still.
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy it is right around the corner!!! This is going to be a party! Its a little earlier this year, so maybe it won't be as hot as it has been but its still going to br a scorcher on stage! I get a lot of questions in the studio about tickets and what not so I'll tell you now that there ARE still tickets available, but not many! Don't forget, Rockaholics bought 40,000 tickets during the pre-sale so don't miss your chance to pick some up and join us May 15th.
Another question I get is whether or not there are hotel packages available like there were in previous years. The answer to that is YES!! These are a great idea if you can do it. Think about it...12 solid hours out at Rockfest, $5 beers, what could be better than to not have to worry about driving alllll the way home. Stumble over to hotel sleep it off and go home the next day.
Either way, Rockfest is going to be off the hook!! Complete details are right here on our website so you came to the right place!
It is official and it is ON!!! Johnny had all the details this morning....ROCKFEST 2010 IS COMING!!! Saturday May 15th, Liberty Memorial...it IS the largest one day music festival in America thanks to you! 15 bands, 2 stages:

As always concessions will be $5 or less!! Tickets go on sale THIS Wednesday at 10am thru Friday at midnight for Rockaholics for $25! DON'T WAIT!!! Last year's the show sold out in a week and they're going to fast again!! The day will come when Rockaholics buy ALL the tickets during the pre-sale and this could be the year!!!

Make sure to listen to the morning show this monday as Johnny will have ALL the details...when, where, who, ticket prices, ticket on-sale date AND the Rockaholic pre-sale details (hint, hint, make sure you're a registered Rockaholic but I'm sure you already know why). Its going to be a great day, a great party and one that you won't want to miss (are there really any that you do want to miss?...I didn't think so).
Summer begins with Rockfest 2010 and the details are close!!!
That time of the year to fill out your brackets and find some way to catch the games at your place of business without the boss finding out. Already, people are talking smack but the reality is this....its anyone's title to win. Just look at what happened back in 1988 (I'm sure you know by now I'm a big KU fan). The Jayhawks weren't even ranked that year and no one gave them a chance to go past the first or second round let alone the whole thing, but the Cinderella story took place and Danny and the Miracles took home the trophy. I do think KU has a great chance to bring home another title this year but they are going to have to fight through some incredible teams and incredible games to get there. So good luck to all the teams that make the dance. I look forward to watching some amazing basketball....even the games which my team isn't playing in. MARCH MADNESS BABY AND ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!!!!!!!
I recently heard that a large group of singers, rappers and other celebs have gathered together to remake "We Are the World" in response to the recent eathquake in Haiti. As I'm sure you already know, the original is a song and charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and co-produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian. As of 2009, it has sold more than 20 million units and raised over $63 million for humanitarian aid in Africa and the US. "We Are the World" has demonstrated that diverse musicians can productively work together, and has further influenced the movement within pop music to create songs that address humane concerns.
While I applaud the effort to help people and nations around the globe, when I heard of this idea to remake the song, only one thought came into my mind.......all of these major "artists" in one place and nobody could write a new song??? Seriously??
Hope you don't mind me throwing in a shameless plug here but if you're looking for a great rock show on Saturday Feb 13th (yes fellas, that would be the day before Valentine's Day...consider yourself warned and reminded) come on out to the St. Valentine's Day Massacre at the Uptown Theater! Thrust will be there along with my band, Load Point Pull. Troglodyte, Changing Faith and Forever Grey round out the bill and it'll be a killer night...plus, its an ALL AGES show!! Tickets are $12 ($10 if you ask the bands REALLLLY nicely) and you can get them from any member of any of the bands, through Ticketmaster or at the door.
Ok, this is going to be badass!! When Bob told me the line-up for the latest Low Dough Show, I had to have him repeat it more than once because I couldn't believe my ears. Sevendust and Drowning Pool together on one stage Feb. 26th at the Midland Theater. Don't get me wrong, the line-up itself is awesome but both bands for $9.89 is BEYOND awesome!! Tickets for Rockaholics go on sale at 10a tomorrow morning and THESE TICKETS WILL GO FAST!!! If you are even considering going to this show, grab your tickets as soon as you can. $9.89 plus the service charge...not bad! IF any tickets are left they'll be on sale Friday morning. Friday Feb 26th!! Wait...Friday?? ....I think I may feel a cold coming on that night;)
Well, the New Year is officially under way and I'm sure that some resolutions have already been broken. I'm always curious to hear some of the strange things people make as resolutiuons. I'm not talking about "I'm going to quit smoking" or "I'm going to lose 10 pounds" or anything like that...I mean strange ones like "I'm going to try not to laminate my testicles", that sort of thing, but real legit (although strange and off the wall) resolutions. I'm sure you know somebody who has made one that raised at least one eyebrow. Here's your chance to rat them out...post them here and let me know!!
Happy Holidays everyone!! Hope you had a good one so far! I managed to come down with a pretty good cold but still had a good weekend. Don't forget to pick up your New Years Eve Big Ball tickets!! What a way to bring in the new year...Midland Theaterw/Rev Theory, Cavo and Red Line Chemisty!! Rev Theory will actually be on stage, in their set the clock stikes midnight....this is going to be awesome!! Hope to see you all there!
This goes back to my post about the Michael Jackson coverage....ENOUGH OF THE TIGER WOODS STORY!!! Seriously, its not a story anymore. Its ok if the late night talk show hosts want to kick him in the balls for awhile, that's their job....not the news anchor's. There are plenty of more important things going on in the world to keep drilling this into the ground. I can sum it up for everyone very quickly...Tiger Woods cheated on wife multiple times...wife moves out...every is stunned..........back to you.
I'm just going to cut to the chase..it SUCKS!! Yes, 'ol Bessy decided to call it quits over the weekend just in time for the sub-zero weather to roll into KC. Granted, I was more awake than usual each morning but taking a shower with near ice pellets is not my idea of a good time. I'm going to go Andy Rooney on you here...You ever notice that your air conditioner never dies in the winter or your heater in the summer? Its never even when you first turn it on for the season when the weather is transitioning. If it would have happened THIS weekend when its supposed to be in the 40's instead of last weekend and into this week when the wind chill was averaging -5, I may not have woken my neighbors with inventive cursing each day. Needless to say, I will NOT be joining the Polar Bear club anytime soon but at least I won't have to keep practicing for it since I have replaced the old unit. So, next time the alarm goes off and you think its the worst thing in the world to wake up to....trust me, a worse wake up call is one shower knob away!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!! Now that that is in the books (and we've all recovered from the food comas) its time to turn our sites on the upcoming holiday shows we've got lined up...namely Twisted X-mas and The New Years Eve Big Ball!! Twisted is already sold out but we are giving away tix so all hope is not lost...just keep listening for your chance to win. New Years tix aren't sold out yet but they will be! Its going to be a killer show with Rev Theory, Cavo and Red Line Chemistry. Tix are $35 and there are a few hotel packages left. Both shows will be off the hook and I hope to see all of you at both of them!!
Just wanted to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving! On a day in which we stop and give thanks, I am thankful for all of you for allowing me to do what I do. The word just doesn't seem to be enough to convey my apprecitation, but thank you so much for being the best listeners in the world!
Its coming up!! The last day for keys to that brand new 2010 Harley Fat Boy Lo (plus the brand new 2010 Camaro SS assuming the winner is a Rockaholic) will be the day before Thanksgiving!! Not too much longer so I'm sure you'll be trying extra hard to get the last few remaining keys. In an effort to help, I'll give you a tip that might increase your chances of winning. I get asked all the time, "what is the trick?? How do you get in to win those things?" Truth is, there is no trick, it is truly luck of the draw. However, (and here's the tip) one thing that might help is to wait until you hear the sounder fire on the air. I know that we tell you the times that we are giving the keys away and we get a ton of calls from people at that time asking what if they're number 9. If the phone is ringing before the sounder is played, you won't win because you're too early. That's really the best advise I can give you. Timing is everything because EVERYONE is going to be wanting these keys. So, have the number on speed dial, have it ready on re-dial or whatever you have to do, but wait until we fire the sounder, then release the hounds!! Good luck to you all and I hope to be giving you a key soon!
Every now and then I sit back, relax and kind of reflect on things. I did that other day, thought of my time here at the station and thought to myself..man, what a life it has been. Its been a little over 16 years that I've been here and really can't describe how fortunate I feel to be apart of the family that you invite into your lives everyday so I just wanted to say, thank you. Thank you for allowing us to do what we do here and letting us be apart of your days, nights, evenings and weekends. Without you, we wouldn't be here. Without you, we wouldn't be able to do the things that we look so forward to each year, like Rockfest. Without you, I have no idea where I would be or what I would be doing, but as we approach Thanksgiving and start thinking of the things that we are thankful for, I am thankful for each and every one of you for letting me and all of us here at station to be apart of your day. Anyone in radio would love to have listeners like you and we are the fortunate few that actually do have you as listeners. Thank you so much for letting us be apart of your lives and for being apart of ours.
Ok, so I'm sure that many people understand where I'm coming from on this....can we take it one holiday at a time?? It is Thursday Oct. 29th and Halloween is two days away. I went to more than one store (Target) just to get some last minute things; i.e. cups with Halloween type of a theme on them, maybe some little decoration, nothing big but the kind of stuff that you would usually find there. To my amazement (and I don't know why it still amazes me since its the same every year) their Halloween section had been taken down and replaced with Christmas tree, light and decorations. What the...?? Seriously, can I get through this holiday before I have the next one rammed down my throat?? And that's just it...its not even the next holiday. Perhaps stores around town have forgotten about a little holiday called Thanksgiving?? It the last Thursday of Novemeber in case any of them are confused. One holiday at a time please!!
I might be getting ahead of myself here, but I'm going to go ahead and predict a Chiefs victory on Sunday! I really like the direction the team is going and I've seen some really good improvements that make me think the team can pull it off this weekend! And I'm not talking about a win that the other team hands to us, I truly think a win this weekend could be earned! There are those that say the NFC East is the toughest division in the NFL. Let's say that they're right and then look at the game last Sunday against the Cowboys. The Chiefs fought hard the entire game and took it into overtime. Improvements HAVE been made. Now granted there are still more improvements that need to come and the team is a long way from where they need to be but Washington is the fourth sraight NFC East team the Chiefs will face and think the previously three have toughened them up a bit...especially the Dallas game. I think the team can feel the momentum coming off of that game and we'll see them play with it Sunday. I hope I'm right but I believe they can win this weekend!
So word has it that Rober Rodriguez is going to remake Predator while other reports say its a "reboot". Honestly, I don't give a rat's ass if its a remake or reboot, I'm getting sick an tired of this crap coming out of Hollywood!! Can nobody out there come up with an original idea anymore?? And what's worse, rumour has it that this version will star Adrian Brody and Topher Grace. Seriously?? They expect me to take this seriously?? I wouldn't be afraid of either one of them in a dark alley not to mention that I could out act Adrian Brody in my sleep.....and I'm a TERRIBLE actor, couldn't act to save my life! First of all, the movie doesn't need to be re-done...period. The original was just fine! Second, like I aready mentioned, I'm tired of re-makes and re-boots and re-this and re-that coming out of Hollywood. They all complained when reality tv started to become popular saying that it was taking jobs away from actors but they sure as hell aren't putting any effort into trying to win those jobs back! Don't get me wrong, I like Robert Rodrigez. Desperato is one of my favorite movies and Sin City was kick ass but they have got to start coming up with orginial ideas if they want my money. Remember when all these movies that are being redone came out for the first time? That's part of what made them awesome was that they were original and creative ideas that we hadn't seen before. I'm starting to think that Hollywood thinks we're all stupid and will go see anything they put on the screen and they've stopped putting effort into it. They've gotten lazy in my opinion and I about done taking them seriously.
Wow! Sorry about that!! I guess I really got up on my soap box on that one. Let me climb on down....just wanted to get that off my chest. My next blog will be more upbeat...promise!
Thanks just doesn't seem to be enough for everyone who came out and rode/participated in the Bikers for Babies ride this past Sunday. I know we keep talking about how impressed we are that you keep supporting the things we do with the economy in the tank and things being tight but its something that still amazes us! That REALLY impies to BFB! Over 6,000 riders and over $660,000 raised!! Words simply can't put it into perspective. Once again you have shown the country what it means to have a heart and to think of something that is bigger than each of us. As a matter of fact, I'd say you set a new definition to the term "The Heart of America." No longer does it just mean the middle of the counrty, you have set the bar for the rest of the country to strive for when it comes charitable deeds. You should be proud of yourselves. I know that some people often look down their noses at bikers and think they're a nusence, but let me ask those same people this; when was the last time you saw a line of over 6,000 Rolls Royce, Bentlys and limos parading down the highway to raise money and awarness for such a great cause? And to do it year after year? There's has been a lot in the news lately about corporate greed and corruption, you have shown what it means to think and behave the exact opposite of that. I truly wish that the NATIONAL media would give even a fraction of the time they've dedicated to those stories to show the country and the world the example you have set here in Kansas City with the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies ride. Thanks to each and every one of you!!
...is THIS sunday!!! This is absolutely something if you've never seen it for yourself. March of Dimes is a great orginization that helps babies who are fighting for their lives. If you have not pre-registered yet, you still have one more chance. Tomorrow morning (Saturday the 19th) at Worth Harley-Davidson North in Gladstone from 10a-2p. Come on up, get yourself pre-registered and be a part of something that you will truly never forget. Every little bit helps and you CAN make a difference.
Well, the NFL is officially underway for the season and the Chiefs have an 0-1 start. I've already talked to a few people who kind of gave me the, "Well surprise, surprise" and the, "They suck as usual"...and I'll be honest, last year I would have agreed and been one of those saying it. But truthfully, I like what I saw on that field today. Not to be rude to the team but I did somewhat expect us to lose against Baltimore. Not because I think the Chiefs are that bad but because of the combination of the Ravens being that good (especially on defense) and Kansas City having a whole new management structure/coaching staff and still implementing/learning a whole new scheme. Were mistakes made...yes. Are there a lot of improvements that need to be made...yes. But I'll tell you what, I watched that team play with more heart than I have seen in YEARS. The last couple of years it just seemed that the fire died down sometimes as early as the middle of the third quarter and the team just looked deflated at times. Today was completely different and it has me excited to see how the season develops. By mid-third quarter our defense was completely exhausted and you could tell. But they still played every down with every ounce of energy they had in the tank all the way to the end of the game even if it wasn't enough to stop Baltimore's offense. There was no let up. Not only that but I'll tell you another thing that caught my attention was the discipline they played with on both sides of the ball as well. How many times have we seen the team beat themselves with penalties that more or less cost us a game? Those kinds of penalties were being called on Baltimore this time around and we damn near pulled this game off. Let's face it, that game was not supposed to that close. All the "experts" had Baltimore pretty much blowing us out. Sure, at the end of the day they still won....but they had to work for it through all four quarters and I don't think they were expecting that. Someone told me that if the Chiefs were simply able to score one touchdown...just ONE touchdown against the Baltimore defense, that would be considered a victory. Well, how about two?? (and another from special teams) So, my hat's off to the hard fought battle I saw from the Chiefs today. We may again end up losing more games than we win this year as the team rebuilds, but if they keep playing with the kind of heart they displayed today and continue to play with the discipline they showed, then I think we're going to see the future get brighter and brighter for the Kansas City Chiefs and we may very well end up winning more games than people expect.
So, I've been watching the Chiefs pre-season (I'll talk about the team later in the season when I have a chance to get a good look at their plan) and the thing I have noticed the most with the TV coverage is the absolute sponsor overload. Am I the only one that noticed this? And get me started on turning the field red inside the 20 yard line....I assure you that I know that is the "Red Zone." I don't need my football field color-coded and I don't need a giant sponsor there either. I'm OK with putting a sponsor next to the score at the bottom of the screen....I'm even fine with the announcer saying things like, "This injury report brought to you by....", but do they really need to sell the air between the goal posts during a field goal attempt?? Seriously!! Hopefully its just a pre-season thing and we won't be bombarded during the regular season but its starting to be a little over kill.
Its coming up folks!! Saturday night, a sold out event with Steel Panther at the Midland Theater!! This show is going to be off the hook and I hope you have your tickets!! If not, well, Jake is going to have one last chance for you to get your hands on some to join us for one hell of a party! Friday night Jake will be at Angel's Rock Bar at the Power and Light District from 9p-11p with your chance. So hang with him, get those tickets and we'll see you at the Birthday Bash!!
First of all, let me say how cool it was that Rev Theory stopped by Best Buy to perform and hang out with us here in Kansas City. For those who don't know, Rev Theory was on the second stage of the Cruefest tour when it stopped by KC. Since there wasn't enough room in the area of Sprint Center for said second stage, all of those bands got the day off and we didn't get to see them when the tour passed through. Most bands would take that day off and sleep in or just lounge on the bus, but Rev Theory decided to have an in-store performace and autograph/photo session with their fans here in KC. Hats off to them.
That being said, let me talk about the performace itself; Awesome/incredible/amazing....pick one. All of us at the office (and anyone who breathes music) understands one thing; if you can't sit down and do it with an acoustic guitar, you can't do it period. Rev Theory can do it. They laid down five songs as if they were written to be performed in that capacity starting with "Hell Yeah." If you were there, then you know what I'm talking about. Speaking of which, for those of you who were there.....thank you! The band specifically came to me after it was over and were absolutely floored that over 400 of you came out on a Sunday to hang out with them at Best Buy. They appreciate the fans in KC more than you know and I told them that if they, or any band is looking for the best fans in the world, then they need to look no further than right here in the Midwest. Those of us at that station have known that for years and feel fortunate to have all of you as our family as you invite us into your lives everyday. Thank you and thanks again to Rev Theory for an incredible performance!
Recently we lost, what I consider to be, an American Icon. Walter Cronkite was born in St. Joe and, I'm pround to say, worked right here in our town at the Kansas City Star as he began his rise to becoming a household name. He is synonymous with several key moments in history as he broke and covered stories that affected all of America like the JFK assassination and the Apollo 11 moon landing, just to name a couple. He even flew in bombing missions during WWII. After I heard of his death, I started thinking back to those memorable broadcasts (not that I was alive during those times but we've all seen the footage) and compared not only the way he delivered the news but also his content with the news of today. I understand that we live in a 24 news cycle but one would think that would allow MORE news to be delivered to us and not just ramming the same stories down our throats unless that story has something uncovered that's worth following up on (I promise I do have a point with all this so bare with me). I saw a tribute montage the other day for Walter Cronkite and in that montage he spoke about the future of American Journalism. He said, "The profession of Journalism ought to be about telling people what they NEED to know, not what they want to know. It must be responsible if we're going to have the informed public that we need to have to make this democracy work." Shortly there after, I got an e-mail from one of my co-workers here at Entercom that really drove this all home for me. The e-mail reads as follows:
You're a 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded, and dying in the jungle in the Na Drang Valley, 11-14-1965, LZ X-ray, Vietnam . Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8 - 1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in.
You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is 1/2 way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.
Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter, and you look up to see an un-armed Huey, but it doesn't seem real, because no Medi-Vac markings are on it...
Ed Freeman is coming for you. He's not Medi-Vac, so it's not his job, but he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come.
He's coming anyway.
And he drops it in, and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 2 or 3 of you on board.
Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire, to the Doctors and Nurses. And, he kept coming back.... 13 more times...... And took about 30 of you and your buddies out, who would never have gotten out.
Medal of Honor Recipient, Ed Freeman, died last Wednesday at the age of 80, in Boise , ID .......
May God rest his soul......
I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we sure were told a whole bunch about Michael Jackson.
Medal of Honor Winner
Don't get me wrong, Michael Jackson was an icon as well and the stamp he left in the music industry will be felt forever, probably, and his death was tragic, but there has been other news going on, like Ed Freeman, that gets swept under the rug because the media follows a story too far when there's nothing new to report. There are others out there who have made ENORMOUS contributions who don't even get a single mention and their stories go unheard while we and the media obsess with stories about celebrities. Should celebrities get covered in the news?, sure they should. Their stories are interesting and many times news worthy, but so are the stories of ordinary Americans doing extraordinary things...like Ed Freeman who was a true American war hero. Had I not received that e-mail, I would have never known Ed Freeman's story which would have been a tragedy in and of itself.
I'm not trying to be funny when I say this, but there was a great line in Spiderman that I think applies here..."With great power comes great responsibilty." The news media HAS great power with the ability to deliver information to us; however great responsibilty seems to be lacking. It would be nice for more of the media to pick up the torch that was lit by the late, great Walter Cronkite..."And that's the way it is."
I know its still only July but, damn it, I am ready for the football season!! Chiefs, KU bring it on (yes, for those of you who don't know I'm a HUGE Jayhawk junkie). I know a lot of people have been breaking down the numbers and really examining the players, coaches, coaching staff and all the stats in between but I've got to be honest with you....I'm just excited to go into a season without the stench of Carl Peterson looming over Arrowhead! Maybe now we can actually focus on playing football and winning games instead of having that waste of space kicking his feet up on the desk and saying, "who cares, look at the attendance with us playing the way we are." (granted, I made that quote up and cannot prove that "King Carl" ever said anything along those lines but it certainly felt that way from that arrogant S.O.B). Anyway, like I said, it was just a rambling thought but I'm ready to bust out the grill, chill the beer and hang at the stadiums with good friends and good food as we usher in a new era with the Chiefs and fire into another season of Jayhawk football!! We'll see ya at that tailgates!!
A friend of mine sent me this link and it is really something! Proof positive that music can bring us together and unite people regardless of belief, background or geography. Enjoy.....
My hats off to the group who thought of and created this video and ESPECIALLY to those around the world who lent their voices/instruments to this incredible video. Now if we could all ACTUALLY get along that well!! .......and now I shall dismount from my soap box. :)
I honestly don't even know where to begin...I am absolutely speechless! I and everyone at the station cannot thank everybody enough for such an incredible event yesterday! Rockfest has grown beyond any of our wildest imaginations, hopes or dreams and yesterday was once again truly humbling. You ARE the best listeners in the world and that's not just hype...we can back it up with what was witnessed yesterday!! The word "Thanks" just doesn't seem to be enough but thank you so much to EVERYONE involved with Rockfest. Those of you who bought/won tickets, the ground and stage crews who helped us build "Rockfest City", the bands and their crews, the photographers, security, all the vendors and sponosors, the fireworks crew, the city and the Liberty Memorial for allowing us to use the space (and if you've never been to the WWI museum inside the Libery Memorial, I highly encourage you to take the time and check it out...it is definitely something to see!!)...the day and the event could not have been more perfect and I don't know how to say thank you to all involved enough. Its because of you and you alone that we do what we do and why Rockfest has become the phenom that is has become!
