New Music Tuesday (6/11)

This week's list of new music covers one of the broadest spectrums of "Rock" I've ever seen, thus making it one of the most enjoyable list of new music I've ever seen…
As EVERYONE knows BLACK SABBATH is back with "13". This time they're without Bill Ward on skins replaced by Brad Wilk of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. The details of this decision are a contract dispute combined with old age and a rough ability to get the job done. It's their 19th studio album and their first studio recording with Ozzy & Geezer together since they put out the live "Reunion" album in 1998. Produced by Rick Rubin, we'll see if he's able to capture what made them SABBATH back in 1970 with the classic albums of "Black Sabbath" and "Paranoid".
Speaking of iconic - legendary bands ZZ TOP "The Complete Studio Albums 1970-1990" is unloaded to the world today. This 10 disc box set from Warner Bros. features original mixes off their first 10 albums!
And if we're keeping tabs on bands that seem like they've been around forever, I'd be remised if I didn't mention, the Goo Goo Dolls are back with their 10th studio album "Magnetic". Say what you want, but these guys were initially signed by METAL BLADE, that's gotta count for something - right? Side Note: They're playing KC on Friday the 12th of July at the Sprint Center with MATCHBOX 20…. some of you are excited by this, aren't you? :)
Let's switch gears and add some balls & spit to this blog, NYHC's AGNOSTIC FRONT has "To Be Continued: The Best of Agnostic Front" dropping today. The blog ALL MUSIC isn't a fan of how the track listing doesn't follow in the "obvious chronological order route". They do state, however, "it offers a nearly complete retrospective of Agnostic Front's career". So do with it as you see fit, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna pick it up.
Titans of the Death Metal genre; THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and CHILDREN OF BODOM are back. BLACK DAHLIA with "Everblack" and BODOM with "Halo of Blood".
If you're a fan of WOLFMOTHER, rather, ANDREW STOCKTON you'll wanna check out his debut album "Keep Moving". Initially intended to be released under WOLFMOTHER but after numerous line-up changes and a year of recording STOCKTON dropped the band name and decided to continue on under his own name. He, and his merry band of pranksters, will be at the Riot Room on Friday, August 16th.
Some comedy to close our your new music blog; THE LONELY ISLAND (Andy Samburg - "Dick in a Box" with Justin Timberlake/ "Hot Rod" the movie - with Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone) put out their 3rd studio album with "The Wack Album". Clearly, their talent is recognized as there's special appearances by JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, LADY GAGA, TOO $HORT, HUGH JACKMAN, KRISTIN WIIG and more! Judging by song titles like "I Run NY" featuring Billie Joe ARMSTRONG of GREEN DAY and an interlude song titled "Where Brooklyn At" you've gotta wonder if they're not trying to carry the torch of the BEASTIE BOYS.

Here's what's coming up!

FIGHT or FLIGHT (Dan & Mike of Disturbed) "A Life By Design" July 23rd

New Music Tuesday!

Lots o'goodies in the rock bag and depending on what you like, you may find some vinyl and collectors pieces to round out your collection.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE are back with a new album "Like Clockwork". I've yet to hear it but am stoked for it given the fact of appearances by Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor, Mark Lanegan, Nick Oliveri, and Elton John - just to name a few!

90's powerhouse, FILTER, has returned with "The Sun Comes Out Tonight" and MEGADETH's back with "Super Collider". Both Filter and Megadeth are rolling thru KC later on this year.

Some other note able releases are DEEP PURPLE "Live in Copenhagen 1972" on CD, KILLING JOKE "The Singles Collection 1979 to 2012" also on CD and ROB ZOMBIE "Classic Album Collection".

Say what ya want about GnR

With Axl Rose being the only original band member, to DJ Ashba, Bumblefoot & Richard Fortus not being Slash, to it being the best cover band on the planet but pound-for-pound Axl and company f*cking brought it last night at The Midland. While I may still be on a show high I'm gonna say at this moment Guns N' Roses is the best show I've seen at said venue, yet. That's saying quite a bit since I've seen a sh!t-ton of shows there.

I feel like Ashba (lead guitarist, till Richard or Bumblefoot took over for a solo) tells people, "Yeah, I see those shoes over there and they're great and all but have you seen these? Mine are pretty amazing as well. Good luck filling them!"

The show started around 10:40 and went till damn near 1:30! Three hours, 30 songs and 46 wardrobe changes by Axl later and I'm giving the point to him and his merry band of pranksters over Slash & Myles' performance at the same venue a while back. Absolutely a bad ass, mother f*cking, rock show! Only negatives, I'll give, are with Tommy Stinson's performance on bass. Just kinda meh, for me. And I suppose for some people, how late it all went, I liked it though. Made me chuckle a bit when Larry who runs the Midland said, around 12:30, that "It's just so late. We find the 40 year olds can't hold their liquor when it runs so late". That sh!t made me laugh pretty good.

Had a blast, glad we went, and irony wasn't lost on one of the people at the Midland (whom my girl and I ran into as we were heading into the venue) swinging down into the P&L to get Axl, and I quote, "a slice of Tennessee Whiskey Cake"!
