Nivens Log, Vol. VII

It's a wet and wild Wednesday!
Some call it Humpday, today I lived that! (Nooner aka Quickie)

Quiet Riot's documentary will be out on DVD the 19th of this Month, "Well Now You're Here, There's No Way Back"

Thanks to my friend, Bustamante, I found out that Faith No More will be streaming their Detroit show on Friday, May 8th! Starting at 8:15 AM our time! Click this Link here for the details!

Today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy was Mr. TJ Miller talking about a horrible flying experience.

Happy 100th Birthday to Orson Welles! A powerful force in the world, with an incredible mind & voice, who's career started on the radio!

As you know Halestorm will be at Rockfest! Here's the latest video from them for "Amen"!

Nivens Log, Vol. VI

Cinco de Mayo!!
Just another reason to drink, get smashed and blame it on Mexico's Independence (even though that's actually in September)

Starting today's blog off with your 4:20 Smoke Break from Dave Chappelle. Naturally, with Dave, it's NSFW!

My god I miss Rage Against the Machine!
You would think NOW, with all that's going on in the world, they'd resurface and melt our faces off with some new jams.
Sadly, I don't think that'll be the case!
Here's a video to one of my favorite jams by them!

At roughly the 6:40 mark Scott Weiland (once the front man for Stone Temple Pilots) makes his case for what happened last week with his botched abortion performance of "Vaseline". Naturally the interviewer asks about a possible STP reunion. He's basically lobbing softballs towards Scott. Not exactly in depth reporting, more like buttering up. None-the-less, thoughts?

YES!! New video from Agnostic Front, "Never Walk Alone"! Think we can talk Fritz into spinning in The Pit?

Nivens Log, Vol. V

Back in the saddle on a Monday afternoon after spending the weekend in Atlanta!!
Big week ahead of us here as we're closing in on Rockfest!! Less than four weeks out.
Crazy to think that twas on this day, three years ago, the world truly lost an amazing soul in Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys!
Here's a docu about them boys, Beastieography!!

On top of We Are Harlot I'm super jacked to catch Motionless in White at Rockfest! They certainly look like they'll be able to carry the torch of hard rock laid down by the likes of Manson, Korn, Zombie, etc. The following video is the title track to their latest disc, "Reincarnate".

GREAT bit for today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy by Dov Davidoff about "Love"

Undoubtedly you've heard about the Five Finger Melt Down over the weekend in Memphis. Supposedly it was a "technical error" that drove all the band mates to walk off the stage and nothing to do with Ivan ripping Jeremy's new book. The band also kicked out a sampler of a new track.

Nivens Log, Vol. IV

Hello Friday!!!

Just plugged the new Breaking Benjamin jam, "Failure". New disc, "Dark Before Dawn", drops in June.

Speaking of new jams, I'm super excited for new Faith No More!! They've already played a couple of new tracks live and put one out, "Mother F*cker", as a Record Store Day Black Friday exclusive. Be on the lookout May 19th.

Today's 4:20 Smoke Break was Chris D'Elia. Here's his entire performance that today's bit about "Drunk Girls" came from!

Weekly Rock Wind Up is ready to roll! News stories about Stone Temple Pilots, former STP front man Scott Weiland (sounds horrible), GWAR, Alice in Chains, Lemmy & much - much more!

What I was just talking about on air, "Dear Rockfest Gods! Please let Tech N9ne play the Public Enemy part with Antrax in four weeks!"

MAN, can today be anymore perfect outside! Tis gorgeous!

Still dealing with my dick of a neighbor, Bob the Bitch! HOWEVER, I've got an Ace up my sleeve!
#SeeYouInCourtDick ;)

Super stoked to sweet talk Fritz into looking at this little gem from Body Count, "Pray for Death". Why we don't have more or any BC in The Pit is beyond me, but it's gonna change!!

Another day another report of Scott Weiland seemingly losing his sh!t!
There's really no words to describe this train wreck....

Word on the street is a couple of Alice in Chains fans have started a petition to get AIC into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. While we're at it, it'd be nice to se
*Iron Maiden
*Judas Priest
*Pearl Jam
*The Melvins
*Jello Biafra
*Tom Waits
*Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
*Deep Purple
*Def Leppard
*Motley Crue
The list goes on and on and on and on and....

Nivens Log, Vol II

Happy 82nd Birthday to the one and only Willie Nelson!
Man, I'd love to smoke with him at least once!

I did stand up comedy last night, here's my bit: I once had a pet rock named Skippy.
That's my time, you guys have been great, have a good evening!

Top shelf sh!t right there people!

Props to Ty James for showing me this new jam from Tech N9ne featuring Corey Taylor!

Here's the full clip from today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy from Jay Larson!

I keep reading articles about Shona Banda from Garden City, Kansas. She's been using cannabis for five year's to help her combat Crohn's disease. Her 11 year old son spoke up about the benefits of Medical Marijuana at school during a drug prevention class. The school called the police, the state took him away and the cops then raided her house. She's now fighting to get her son back and pissing off many, many pro-pot fans and even those that don't smoke.
Follow this link for more info and to sign the petition,
Stop acting a fool Kansas!

With all the hoopla around the forthcoming Kurt Cobain documentary, "Montage of Heck", there's been all sorts of Kurt this and Kurt that so today isn't surprising at all that there's a late interview with Cobain from MTV back in '94. Enjoy!

Nivens Log, Vol. I

Tuesday afternoon, life in the studio, April 28th - about a month out from Rockfest!
Who's ready?!

Since it seems I'm viewed as a "Public Nuisance" I figured I'd contribute a little more to society today. So this morning after doing Crossfit, heading to Wheeler Audio to record some additional voice work for the video I filmed in St. Louis a couple weeks back for Anheuser Busch, I did an immense amount of yard work. Even though I live in the city I still gotta keep the shrubs trimmed and you never wanna let the weeds grow higher than the garden. And in doing so I was listening to some Tech N9ne, most notably this jam, "I.L.L'! I really, really, REALLY hope Mr. N9ne plays this one at Rockfest!

Sadly another festival will not have the musical sytlings of Lemmy or the rest of the Motorhead's. It's a bum deal, with Lem aka GOD, as his health has been in a serious decline for years now. Lemmy released a video message apologizing to fans in Sao Paulo, Brazil for nixing the bands appearance at the Monsters of Rock festival.
Here's a great tune from Motorhead... that isn't "Ace of Spades" ;)

Thoughts on new Seether I just played, "Nobody Praying For Me"?

Just played "Sober" by Tool however whilst working on my yard and doing my best to no be a public nuisance I found myself listening to this little gem from them off their debut EP of the same name, "Opiate".

Bill Burr was today's 4:20 Smoke Break of Stand Up Comedy. Here's his bit about "Dog Vibes".
Definitely NSFW!

The new song by Hell Yeah, "Hush", deals with something that vocalist Chad Gray witnessed - repeatedly - while growing up, Domestic Violence. If you or someone you know is in need of help PLEASE call The National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1.800.799.SAFE

Haha! I guess Kurt Cobain had a decent sense of humor. Here's how he dealt with hatemail.
(Though I think some may agree with the writers disdain for Ms. Love)

Here's a great video to educate you about New York Hard Core!
NYHC! F*ck Yeah!!

It's been a minute, so let's talk new music!

Few notable new albums out today and there's some serious action coming down the pike!
  • 10 YEARS are still hard at it and have put out a new disc today on the PALEHORSE label titled, "From Birth to Burial".
  • APOCALYPTICA, who were just in KC opening for SIXX AM drop "Shadowmaker" on the BETTER NOISE/ELEVEN SEVEN label!
  • DANKO JONES, who are incredibly underrated, have put out their latest work "Fire Music" on the BAD TASTE/MRI label.
  • GWAR, still in the throws of a lawsuit from Dave Brockie's father, are putting out their 1992 project onto DVD "Phallus in Wonderland".

And here's what we're looking at soon; JELLO BIAFRA's 2nd album recorded in New Orleans, "A Walk on Jindal's Splinter's" will be out on May the 12th via ALTERNATIVE TENTACLES RECORDS. His first work from NOLA, "Banned from Record Store Day" dropped last week ### Even though SERJ TANKIAN just penned a new song for the Armenian Genocide there's currently no timetable for new SYSTEM OF A DOWN ### I mentioned this in a Weekly Rock Wind Up but FRANK ZAPPA's final album, "Dance Me This" will drop in June. This is Zappa's final album and will be his 100th official release ### BABYMETAL, the Japanese pop-metal group, have signed with RAL/SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT and will be releasing, stateside, their self-titled debut album digitally on May 12th and physically on June 16th ### SLAYER have wrapped work on their 11th studio album AND have set aside six songs for the follow-up effort ### Last but certainly not least TEENAGE TIME KILLERS have announced a date for their debut disc, "Greatest Hits Vol. 1", which we'll see on July 31st via RISE RECORDS! Every single bad mohamba jamba in rock/metal/punk/thrash/hard core show up here: CORROSION OF CONFORMITY's REED MULLIN with bandmates MIKE DEAN & WOODY WEATHERMAN, aforementioned JELLO BIAFRA, RANDY BLYTHE (Lamb of God), DAVE GROHL & PAT SMEAR (Foo Fighters), NICK OLIVERI, MATT SKIBA (Alkaline Trio), COREY TAYLOR, TOMMY VICTOR (Prong & Danzig), LEE VING (Fear), MIKE "IX" WILLIAMS (Eyehategod), KARL AGELL and from the press release "many, many more".
