In today's world of music, songs are covered at a faster rate, it seems, than ever before. The latest one I can think of is Five Finger Death Punch's cover of Bad Company's "Bad Company". So I inquire to you, oh faithful readers of thy Blog/Topic, what is YOUR favorite cover song in the history of ever?
Need some ideas?
Besides the aforementioned number from 5FDP, Metallica's done a shitton of covers most notably on the 1998 double disc CD Garage Inc. Korn's covered Metallica and Pink Floyd. Johnny Cash has covered Nine inch Nails and "Hurt" along with Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage". Ya need more? OK, Disturbed's covered quite a few acts, The White Stripes have covered the country tune "Jolene", Hendrix covered Dylan with "All Along The Watchtower" and I'd be re-missed not to mention Limp Bizkit's cover of George Michael's "Faith". I know there's more out there, so please feel free to add to this list. Interaction on this piece isn't just encouraged, it's totally appreciated!
There are so many, but Avenged sevenfolds Walk, Orgy's Blue Monday, and Korn's One are my favorites.
My favorite cover of a bad song is Children of Bodoms cover of Britany Spears "oops I did it again" off their all cover cd.
Seether's cover of Wham's "Careless Whisper" is pretty badass.
I'm going to go a little more unconventional here....and I've got a couple choices.
1 - At The Gates cover of Slaughterlord's "Legion" (though this is definitely not something you'd hear on the radio)
2 - Killswitch Engage's cover of Ronnie James Dio's "Holy Diver"
To me the best cover song is Hurt the Nine Inch Nails classic, covered by the Man in Black, Johnny Cash. Wow, what a tribute to a band to have a music legend like Johnny Cash cover your song. The gravelly voice which speak volumes for the pain of addiction. Any one which has watched Walked the Line can understand the battles Johnny Cash fought with addiction. Man, that some heavy stuff. It must have been a big boost to the band Nine Inch Nails to have him cover their song, especially knowing Johnny was near the end of the road. Bad Ass!
My favorite cover is definitely Guns N' Roses cover of Bob Dylan's Knockin' On Heaven's Door. It's amazing, but I do also love 5FDP cover of Bad Company, it's pretty bad ass!
Gotta go with the Holy Diver and Hurt covers mentioned above, but Metallica's Turn the Page is also really good. Sanctuary's White Rabbit is also killer, but kinda hard to find these days. Once they became Nevermore, they also covered Sounds of Silence.
Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!
Very good rendition of Bob Dylan's "New pony" by The Dead Weather.
Some good ones mentioned already but Metallica's cover of Thin Lizzy's - Whiskey in the Jar tops my list.
